All T28 sets* are now available over in the shop.

May 2026 ended up being the month of the T28. Holy crap. I’m still digging my way out of the production hole, but now that everything’s live, here’s a rundown of what’s available for Takom’s T28 and M28 kits:

T28 Hybrid Tracks

The T28 packs four track runs, and even with the best, most painless workable tracks, that’s quite a bit of work. Our hybrid tracks shortcut the slog by combining individual workable links with static, 30-link track lengths.

Think of them as combining the best parts of workable links and link-and-lengths.

T28 Workable Tracks

For those who are looking for articulation, fully workable T28 tracks are also available. While they are more work to get together than the hybrid tracks, it’s a smooth assembly process that’s still about a thousand times preferable to the kit’s approach.

Which Are Right For You?

It’s a matter of preference, really.

Hybrid tracks go together a lot faster, so if you’re looking at the T28 and thinking that’s too many tracks, the hybrids are a good bet.

If you plan on building it up in combat mode (which I am guessing 90% will), remember that only about 50% of the tracks will even be visible at all, and half of those will be heavily obscured. If I were building a closed one, particularly on flat ground, I’d go hybrid for sure.

Workables give you all the articulation you could want, but because of that, they do take longer to assemble. If you plan on transport mode, or you want to have the T28 moving over uneven ground, those are really the only reasons I’d reach for them over the hybrids.

A fun third option if you’re shopping for two tanks? Split the difference and get one set of each. This allows you to use one static length per track run, instead of two. If, say, you want to build both in combat mode, but going over uneven terrain.

T28 Muzzle Brake (T5E1 105mm)

Takom provides lovely metal barrels in both the T28 and M28 kits, and then caps them with split-in-half muzzle brakes.

This muzzle brake addresses that annoyance with a one-piece muzzle brake for the T28, including subtle cast texture.

M28A1/A2 Muzzle Brake Set

This is the exact same idea as the T28 Muzzle Brake, but for the M28A1/A2 kit. This set contains muzzle brakes for both included guns – the T53 120mm and T7 155mm. Both are one-piece and designed to fit their respective barrels.

While I do not have the kits to test fit, given the common lineage, it’s highly likely these brakes will also fit the Takom T30/T34 lineup.

T28 Workable Suspension

I started building the T28 the day I got it, and quickly ran into a problem. Takom’s approach to the volute suspension is the exact kind of fiddly annoyance that absolutely sends me. Well, as I’m fond of saying, “when you know Fusion, everything becomes a Fusion problem”. And in this case, I decided to make that everyone’s problem.

This set replaces the kit bogie arms and volute spring packs with a much more modeler-friendly approach that emphasizes go-togetherness. The resin parts integrate seamlessly with the rest of the kit’s styrene suspension, and the mixed media lets you break out the solvent cement without fears of accidentally welding everything together (because 3D resin are non-reactive toTamiya Extra Thin and similar formulas).

T28 Hoist Lugs & Light Guards

This set also got its start with my experience building the Takom T28. The hoist attachment lugs are numerous and, with two sprue attachment points for each one, rather tedious to clean up. They’re also a bit muddy in terms of the center channel shape.

And the light guards and speaker guard are photoetch bullshit. Granted, they do include a jig to bend the brass, but that never goes as smoothly as hoped, and still leaves out fastener detail (and in the case of these guards, crossover depth).

I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get them to print, and if I did, I wasn’t sure they’d stand up to the support removal process, but they did great in both respects, so here we are!

That’s All (So Far…)

And…that’s what I’ve got for the T28. Not going to say I’m not going to do anything else, because as I get deeper and deeper into it, I might find other things that make me think “there’s got to be a better way to do this”.

But for now, these sets will make your Takom T28 (or M28, or both) much more enjoyable build experiences!
