Now that I’m moving into selling physical products, this question will inevitably come up. So here’s the answer!
So you’ve purchased a Doogs Studios product, opened it up, and wondered…
“Why are my tracks purple?”
Or gray. Or beige. Or white. Or blue. You get the idea.
The Simple Answer
That’s the color of the resin I used.
The More Nuanced Answer
There are only a few resins that I trust to produce prints with the quality and properties that I want. Those resins come in a variety of colors, which may or may not be in stock when I need to restock.
So a part of it is simply…that’s what’s available.
Resins also tend to cycle through promotions, so if one’s $10 less per kilo, I’m going with that one. And different resins don’t typically have overlapping colors.
So that’s the second part.
The third part is functional. Certain parts may require a more flexible or more resilient resin, and I try to keep those in different colors so I don’t accidentally print the wrong part in the wrong resin.
The Resins I Currently Use
This may change over time as I evaluate additional resins. But these are the ones I currently trust:
- Phrozen Aqua-Gray 8K
- Phrozen Hyperfine
- Phrozen RPG
Aqua-Gray and Hyperfine tend to be interchangeable, and with those I’ll switch between the two, and sometimes mix them as one runs low.
RPG is is designed with some flex and shearing resistance, so it gets used where those might come in handy, like track pins.
