Description

Give your Jug the shoes it deserves!

The P-47 is an iconic aircraft with a ton of presence, but kit wheels are often afterthoughts beset by vague fit, lackluster tread detail, and that special joy of cleaning up seam lines around the tire circumference.

Aftermarket options abound, especially for 1/48 P-47s, but the extra detail may come at the cost of having to saw away resin pour stubs, drill out (or shrink down) mis-sized axle mounts, and fill rim gaps due to separate wheel hubs and so-so tolerances.

Doogs Studios P-47 wheels are designed from real-world measurements and factory plans, and only then adjusted to account for scale and fit. High quality 16K 3D printing reproduces incredible detail without the annoyances of hacking away at resin pour stubs, and their one-piece design ensures no annoying rim gaps.

Which tires are right for your P-47?

Short answer: yes. P-47s served in multiple theaters with multiple operators. Spoked wheels (six spokes for P-47D and M) were common, but so were wheels with their covers installed. There’s no rhyme or reason either. It’s not an early war/late war thing. It’s not a harsh environment/pampered environment thing. So…references are your friend.

As for tires and tread types, there are really too many to keep up with. I’ve chosen to (so far) represent two. The diamond tread tires were quite common and as close to a default tire as you’re going to find. The cross tread tires were also fairly common and offer a quite distinct sidewall profile.
